For the perfect holiday spot in South Africa you don’t have to look much further than the beaches, activities and attractions of this city at the Southern point of Africa.
Cape Town is not only popular with the many overseas tourists visiting each year, but locals from all over the country regularly make the trip to enjoy the beauty of the area.
A Cape Town holiday won’t limit you to the city. While the city definitely has enough to keep you occupied for a long time there are many areas close enough to Cape Town that make for great day trips.
It is possible to drive along the West Coast to Paternoster and return to Cape Town again before nightfall. There are many other little towns and villages on the way, to visit. At Langebaan there is a holiday development that reminds of a place somewhere on a Greek Island. The houses are white against the deep blue water of the ocean while lots of little boats are waiting to be taken out to sea.
Paternoster itself and Tietiesbaai, close by, have unspoiled beaches and while Paternoster is developing at an alarming rate, it still has the atmosphere of a small fishing village. Some of the fishermen’s cottages are available for accommodation for those who want to stay overnight. There are also guesthouses and hotel accommodation available.
Towards the East Coast there is Hermanus, Rooiels, Gansbaai and Kleinmond. Hermanus is a two and a half hour drive from Cape Town and while it can be a day trip there is so much to see and do, you should consider spending a night. During whale season it is the best place to be. Any of the accommodations with a view of Walker Bay will allow you to see the whales from your apartment’s windows. There are many boat trips for when they are further away or if you want a closer look.
At Gansbaai you will have the opportunity to try cage diving with the sharks if the whales didn’t provide enough adventure.
The Cape wine lands are within forty five minutes from the city of Cape Town and you can make regular day trips during your Cape Town holiday. The cellar at Delheim is one of the most authentic ones with a great atmosphere and ideal for some wine tasting. After tasting some of the farm’s popular wines you can venture to the lovely restaurant for a delectable lunch.
Cape Point is the other attraction for people visiting Cape Town. Many people believe this is the meeting point of the two oceans which are actually not true. The actual place where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Indian Ocean is at Aghullas, not too far away from Hermanus.
The highlight of most travelers visit to Cape Town is trip onto Table Mountain in the rotating cable car.
There are many bars, pubs and restaurants to visit at the end of a long day that will allow you to relax with a drink and a nice meal.
