Bed & Breakfast Cape Town

It is sometimes difficult to find the right accommodation when there is such a big variety available. Cape Town is South Africa’s number one tourist destination and searching for bed & breakfast Cape Town will give you many options. Some internet sites divide the accommodation into specific areas which can be confusing for someone who is not familiar with the area.

The city of Cape Town has many suburbs with a lot of smaller villages and coastal town very close to the city. Some people prefer to stay a bit outside the actual city area with its traffic and typical city noises. For others staying in the city is more convenient for transport and being close to the business area.

The city bowl of Cape Town is a hub of activity with the constant presence of the majestic Table Mountain on the one side and the calm tranquility of the ocean on the other. Historic buildings line the city streets and add to the obvious charm of this oldest city in South Africa.

Areas such as Gardens, De Waterkant and Bo-Kaap are very close to the city and ideal areas for people who need to be close to the CBD. Bed &Breakfast accommodation in these areas are ample. Because of the close proximity to the CBD many of these Bed & Breakfast Cape Town accommodations make provision for business travelers with added facilities.

Wireless internet will be available at many of the venues while they might also provide secretarial and courier services if arranged in advance. Some are on the public transport routes or will be able to arrange for a taxi service for guests. These areas are, however, not only for business travelers as many holidaymakers that want to be close to the city’s attractions also enjoy staying in these areas.

Constantia is one of the areas close to Cape Town that are very popular with tourists who want to stay outside the city. This leafy valley is within twenty minutes drive from the city and with the wine farms in the vicinity an ideal area for those who want to experience a wine route while being close to the other Cape Town attractions. The well-known Groot Constantia is in this region with a wine tasting area, restaurants and lovely gardens under age old trees. The old Cape Dutch mansion on the farm was turned into a museum where implements and carriages, that is part of the history of the farm, can be seen.

Hout Bay is not even twenty minutes from Cape Town and the Fishermen’s Wharf at the harbor is a great attraction for its wonderful fish restaurants and interesting shops. Many of the bed & breakfast venues in this area have exquisite views accross the harbor and ocean or the mountains.

Between Hout Bay and Cape Town are the upper market areas of Llandudno, Camps Bay and Clifton. Bed & Breakfast accommodation here usually comes with added luxuries to make your stay extra special.

Accommodation In Camps Bay Cape Town

If you are one of those people who are longing for peace and quiet during your holiday, but after a day or two you become bored with sitting around doing nothing, Camps Bay in Cape Town can be your ideal holiday spot.

Camps Bay has a vibrant energy that is different from the focused business oriented atmosphere of the city. With many private villas and apartments available to rent, you will be able to spend days in privacy with lovely ocean views and your own pool and deck area, for hours of relaxation, while you are feasting on excellent cuisine prepared by your own personal chef. The moment boredom hits you; you can just step outside and enter the energy of the Camps Bay area. The main street is lined with restaurant, shops and pubs where you can sit and watch the people frequenting this area.

Camps Bay definitely has a luxurious style and villas won’t come cheap but you can be assured that you will get value for your money spent.

Summer Rose is a typical example of what accommodation in Camps Bay has to offer. The house consists of four bedrooms with en suite facilities. The dining area is large and part of the open plan kitchen and lounge leading to the outside balcony with superb ocean views. Housekeeping is included in the nightly rate. Some of the villas have housekeeping and chef or catering services included in the price. The villas usually have a minimum stay period which is seldom less than three nights and during peak times it can easily be seven to fourteen nights. Five star accommodation is the norm, but many have very reasonable low season prices.

If you don’t need all the space associated with a villa there are various apartments ranging from studio to two or three bedrooms apartments. The Ebb Tide apartments are on the platinum mile of Camps Bay and the use of solar power throughout the building allows it to be environmentally friendly. Security is excellent and each apartment has a private elevator.

If you prefer to stay in a hotel there are a few in the Camps Bay area of which the Twelve Apostles is one of the most luxurious and tranquil. It is situated a few kilometers outside Camps Bay on the coastal road to Hout Bay and stands pretty much alone on the slopes of the majestic Twelve Apostles Mountain.

In the village of Camps Bay you can choose between the Primi Royal Boutique hotel, the Mediterranean style Place on the Bay, Primi Sea Castle or The Bay Hotel.

Camps Bay is ideally situated and within close proximity of many of the Cape Town attractions. A drive into the city is always a pleasure, as you will have the most spectacular views of the mountain and the ocean along the way. It shouldn’t take more than fifteen minutes to get to the centre of the city or the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.

Capetown Accommodation

The beauty of Capetown is uncontested. The ever present Table Mountain is a constant reminder of the rich history of this city. It is here where Diaz experienced the magnitude of the stormy waters of the Cape and where Jan van Riebeeck landed in 1652 to establish a refreshment post for ships en route to India.

The history and diverse cultures tell the tales; from the vibrant Cape Malay people with their exquisite cuisine and energetic lifestyle to the sadness and bitterness of the old District Six.

Many Capetown accommodation venues are part of the history with B&B’s in stately Victorian houses, elegant old world hotels and trendy backpacker’s in restored mansions of the eighteenth and nineteenth century.

People on vacation sometimes steer away from inner city accommodation and with reason. Cities are busy, noisy and many times expensive. Capetown is not really any different, but there is something else about this city forced by a massive mountain towards an angry ocean. The atmosphere is exhilarating and excitement and expectation hit you the moment you feast your eyes on Table Mountain. It calls you with an ancient voice and you never want to take your eyes away again.

Long Street is Cape Town’s oldest and most energetic street and as its name says, extremely long. It stretches for twenty blocks from the waterfront towards the mountain. The bottom part of the street is mainly office blocks with the odd mosque or hotel in between. After the De Waal Street intersection the action starts. Here you will find colorful backpacker’s in restored Victorian buildings, an urban chic hotel and many of the favorite clubs and bars of Capetown.

The other historic area in Capetown is Tamboerskloof. Tamboer is the Afrikaans word for a drum and the area got its name from the farm Tamboerskloof that use to occupy the land many years ago. The mix of Victorian, Art Deco and recently modern homes give it a cosmopolitan feeling and most residents prefer Tamboerskloof to most of the other areas in Cape Town. B&B accommodation is popular in this area. The only hotel in the area is the Cape Milner on the border of Tamboerskloof and Gardens. The hotel has a five star grading and is geared for corporate activities with a variety of conference rooms and the necessary equipment such as overhead and data projectors.

The other area in the city that attracts many tourists is Greenmarket Square. The Square was originally built in 1696 and today it hosts one of the biggest and oldest flea markets in South Africa. Here you can buy anything from a tiny bead to an exotic African outfit. What you can’t find here is not worth finding. The Park Inn and Tudor Hotels are very close to the square and within walking distance of many of the attractions of the area. The magnificent St George’s Cathedral is just around the corner from Greenmarket Square and the architecture here begs to be photographed.

It will do an injustice to the magic of this city to try and describe it in words.

Accommodation Constantia Cape Town

Many years ago Simon van der Stel, a governor at the time, named his farm Groot Constantia. The farm is still a working wine farm producing some of South Africa’s finest wines. The surrounding area is nowadays also called Constantia or Constantia Valley.

The area has seven other wine farms, which make it the only wine route close to the city of Cape Town. The other wine farms are in Stellenbosch and about an hour’s drive from the city.

The valley is exceptionally beautiful with Cape Dutch homesteads and massive old trees canopying the roads.

The five star graded Steenberg Hotel, on one of the oldest wine farms in the area, is a national monument which was built in 1682. The golf course and spa will add value to any holiday and assure you some great relaxation after a busy day. The three heritage suites are a contribution to three very distinct periods in the history of the Cape. Because of the national monument status the exterior of the building was not altered, but extensive work was done on the inside to provide ultra-luxury accommodation.

Ikaya Safari Lodge is decorated in true African safari style and while you won’t be able to go game watching as at many of the other safari lodges throughout South Africa, the lodge offers hiking trails, mountain biking and bird watching. The bedrooms are equipped with mosquito nets to give you that true African bush feeling.

Many of the accommodation options in this area steer towards luxury facilities. The Le Bruly and Yellow cottages are garden cottages suitable for two people and within an affordable price range. The cottages are on the Constantia wine route and very close to the magnificent Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.

Houtkapperspoort cottages have a four star grading and prices are very reasonable considering their high grading. The 26 separate self-catering cottages vary from two-sleeper cottages to accommodation for eight people. All cottages have TV’s with DSTV and DVD players. The cottages are set in a lovely tree-filled garden and are very family friendly with lots of grass for little ones to play on. Some of the cottages have washing machines and tumble driers which are a wonderful bonus, especially for families with children.

The five star Cellars-Hohenhort hotel has become an institution in Cape Town and its Cape Malay restaurant is one of the main attractions of this hotel. The chic elegance of this hotel easily places it on par with the luxurious waterfront hotels, if not sometimes better. Lots of attention has been given to the décor in the rooms and small luxuries such as international newspapers, a pamper menu and easels and paint, for those inspired by the beautiful surroundings, as well as gym vouchers add to the uniqueness of the hotel.

This lovely valley is the ideal place for anyone looking for tranquility and ultimate peace. You will be close enough to the city to enjoy a trip to the top of Table Mountain or a visit to the Castle of Good Hope while you can spend the rest of your time in the loving care of one of Constantia’s excellent accommodation venues.

Blouberg

Table Mountain, as seen on postcards and advertising material is the typical view of the mountain from the Blouberg area.

Blouberg includes a couple of smaller seaside and inland towns of which Bloubergstrand, Milnerton and Melkbosstrand are the best known.

Bloubergstrand is a favorite holiday town with lots of accommodation options, restaurants, shops and long stretches of white beach for swimming and sun bathing during the summer months. Throughout the year the beach is a popular spot for walking and late in the afternoon, families, older couples and dog walkers frequent the beach area. Apart from walking, all kinds of other water sport are quite popular here due the strong winds in this area. The wind can sometimes make the beach truly uncomfortable but the surfers love it. Self-catering and beach house rentals are the favorite accommodation venues in Blouberg as families tend to prefer the area.

On the Rocks is one of the internationally acclaimed restaurants in the Blouberg area. It is basically on the rocks at Bloubergstrand and some of the favorite dishes are seafood platters and lamb shank. They cater for weddings and corporate functions and have special menus for Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
Ons Huisie (our small house) is the other favorite restaurant is the Blouberg area and the building dates back to 1800s. The restaurant owners did a good job of restoring the dwelling to create a true fisherman’s cottage atmosphere. The menu honors the West Coast style with a variety of fish dishes and spit and fish braais (barbeque). They also have a separate Christmas menu and are open seven days a week.

Milnerton is more inland and about 11 kilometers away from Cape Town. The theme park Ratanga Junction and the Century City development placed Milnerton on the map.

Century City hosts many businesses and Canal Walk, one of the largest shopping and entertainment areas in Africa. A shuttle that calls at many of the Cape Town hotels makes it very easy for tourists to visit this centre which is a bit outside the city and the public transport route. The canals and the architecture of the centre create a Venetian atmosphere with the hotels separated from the shopping area by canals with bridges and walkways.

The Rietvlei Nature Reserve in the Milnerton area is an inland wetland and a paradise for bird watchers with more than 112 bird species.

Melkbosstrand (literally translated it means “milk bush beach”) in the Blouberg area is a bit further away from Cape Town and a real coastal village. Its development is largely due to the Koeberg nuclear power station close by and the houses, which were built for the contractors, now belongs to private owners. The beach stretches for about seven kilometers and is very popular with surfers.

The Atlantic Beach hotel, in the area, is modernly furnished with lots of glass and marble. Wooden tables and wall decorations add the African bush feeling and the hotel is ideal for a holiday or conferences and meeting away from the city.

The Blouberg area has lovely beaches, ample accommodation, peace and quiet and enough wind for the water sport fanatics.

Sea Point Hotels

This area of Cape Town, which is five minutes away from the city centre, evolved from a little seaside holiday area into a vibrant and exiting centre of activity.

Not too long ago Sea Point was seen as one of the lesser areas in Cape Town and people looking for cheap accommodation preferred the area. While you will still find some seedy areas in Sea Point it is definitely moving towards a more upmarket area.

The newly built Green Point Stadium, right next to Sea Point’s main area, is a definite attraction.

Sea Point hotels are favored by business travelers as well as tourists. The Protea Hotel used to be one of the best known in the area. It is still a popular hotel, but far from the only one available.

The Cape Town Ritz is large hotel with 222 en-suite rooms and it is situated very close to the beach. They provide conference and banqueting services and the hotel is an ideal stay for business travelers. The close by beach makes it popular with tourists as well. The rates are reasonable and include breakfast.
The Peninsula All-Suite hotel offers a selection of different suites varying from studio to royal suites. The five star suites are relatively expensive, but there are special discounted prices for the low season between April and September. This Sea Point hotel offers a wide variety of facilities including business and secretarial services. It is wheelchair and child friendly with cots and high chairs available in rooms. All rooms are non-smoking, but there are demarcated areas in the hotel where smokers can gather.

The Winchester Mansion Hotel stands along the Seaside Promenade in typical Cape Town fashion with its Cape Dutch architecture. Most rooms have ocean or mountain views and the hotel is a few steps from the beach. The hotel’s Sunday brunch is popular with locals and tourists. Conference facilities, a spa, special children’s menus and babysitting are a few of the services the hotel offers to make your stay more comfortable.

Sea Point is ideally situated for visiting the many attractions of the Cape Town area. The cable car station for a trip to the top of Table Mountain is a few minutes drive away while the inner city attractions such as the Castle of Good Hope, the Parliament Gardens and the museums of Cape Town are close by. It is possible to walk from Sea Point to the city and the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. It is quite a long walk, but on the way you will pass the interesting areas of Green Point and De Waterkant.

Buses and taxis are available from Sea Point to the city and the waterfront. The buses don’t run till very late and it is necessary to check the returning times beforehand.

The hotels are within walking distance from the Sea Point shopping area with a Pick and Pay, Woolworths and other clothing and speciality stores in the main road.

Sea Point has a wonderful energetic ambience that would entertain any visitor.

There are so many areas in Capetown that are nice and exiting and the biggest problem is every time you believe you found the best option, the next one will seem even better.

Business people and tourists have different needs and expectations from their chosen places of accommodation. While the tourist might not be concerned about fast internet access for the business traveler it will be a necessity. The business traveler wants a hotel that can provide in all his or her business needs and usually prefers easy access to the city.

Tourists, on the other hand come for a variety of reasons. Some are looking for the sun and the beach and others are set on exploring all the many attractions of this wonderful city.

Luckily Capetown is geared for all the needs of business and tourist travelers.

The inner city has an array of hotels that will impress any business traveler with its facilities. The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront is very close to the city bowl and with the choice of hotels available everybody will be able to find their perfect spot. Many of the inner city hotels have staff that can speak foreign languages such as Italian, German or Spanish to make the stay of any international business traveler even more enjoyable.

The Townhouse hotel is an old favorite that constantly updates its facilities to make it more attractive for the business traveler. The beauty of staying in the city is, even if you are there just for business and you are going to spend most of your time in meetings or conferences, each time when you step out of the building you will feel the warm African sun on your skin and Table Mountain would greet you from each and every direction.

Many tourists will enjoy a city stay as much as the business traveler will. While Capetown hosts the South African government for six months of the year and businesses are many and varied, there is an atmosphere in the city that says everything is not about money and business. As the first established city in South Africa, as far back as the 17th century, history and culture will greet you around every corner. The Castle of Good Hope lies calmly and elegant at the foot of the mountain as a reminder of the past. The gardens in the inner city are exquisite and tranquil and the many museums will keep visitors busy for a long time.

The tourist might, however, be there to attend one of the many international sport activities that are hosted in Capetown. International soccer, rugby and cricket tournaments regularly find their way to the city. If cricket is your choice you will find a couple of hotels, bed and breakfast facilities as well as self- catering accommodation in the Newlands area where the cricket stadium is situated. On the other hand if you are more interested in soccer you will want to stay in the city or closer to Green Point and Sea Point to be in the vicinity of the new soccer stadium.

Those who enjoy constant change can always book a few nights in a couple of the areas they like for a new and fresh experience every few days.
