Gordons Bay Accommodation

Visualize a lazy summer afternoon in a hammock on the cool verandah of a luxury mansion with a long colorful drink close by. All around you there are soft golden dunes lined with green and the continuous splashing of waves to gently rock you to sleep.

Most Gordons Bay accommodation venues can make this image a reality. The guesthouses, apartments and hotels are mostly high up on the mountain or close to the beach with unrestricted views of the waters of False Bay.

Villa Via Hotel is situated in its own Marina in Harbour Island. The setting is perfect for whale watching during the season that usually stretch from July, with the peak time in September, but the whales are not always predictable and have been seen as early as June and sometimes stay until January. While it is called a hotel each of the suites and rooms have small kitchens and lounge areas for self-catering.

For something bigger Hentiq is a villa with four bedrooms and three bathrooms. This would suit a big family or a group of friends. It is luxury accommodation with a lovely patio with a large sparkling blue pool and a Webber braai.

The Mediterranean style Gordons Bay Guesthouse is situated on the slopes of the False Bay Mountain with exquisite views over False Bay and Table Mountain, in the distance. The themed rooms as well as those with a sea view are higher priced than the others.

For some pampering, the Celtic Manor & Spa is the place to be. The many big windows throughout the venue allow for great views over False Bay. The honeymoon suite is decorated in whites and creams with an en suite bathroom with a sea view. It has its own private balcony and under-floor heating for the colder winter months.

Gordons Bay accommodation venues are focused on the comfort and enjoyment of its guest.

The excellent location of Gordons Bay, the warmer waters and clean beaches make it a very popular tourist area during the summer. The visit of the whales attracts tourists during the winter months to make it popular all year round.

It is within an hours drive from Cape Town and far less busy than the city of Cape Town. Somerset West is just around the corner with an excellent Mall where you will find supermarkets, pharmacies and numerous other shops, restaurants and cinemas.

From any of the Gordons Bay accommodation venues it is easy to reach the quaint little villages of Pringle Bay and Rooi Els. A drive to Hermanus on the coastal road is something not to be missed. It is one of the most beautiful roads in the world. The road has many windings which makes it impossible to drive fast, but you actually want to go very slow to memorize the breathtaking views. On the way to Hermanus you can visit Kleinmond, the hometown of the world-renowned South African artist, Gregoire Boonzaier.

Making Gordons Bay your base will give you the ideal opportunity of a beach holiday while you will be close enough to visit the wine lands and the many attractions of Cape Town.

Cape Town Holidays

For the perfect holiday spot in South Africa you don’t have to look much further than the beaches, activities and attractions of this city at the Southern point of Africa.

Cape Town is not only popular with the many overseas tourists visiting each year, but locals from all over the country regularly make the trip to enjoy the beauty of the area.

A Cape Town holiday won’t limit you to the city. While the city definitely has enough to keep you occupied for a long time there are many areas close enough to Cape Town that make for great day trips.

It is possible to drive along the West Coast to Paternoster and return to Cape Town again before nightfall. There are many other little towns and villages on the way, to visit. At Langebaan there is a holiday development that reminds of a place somewhere on a Greek Island. The houses are white against the deep blue water of the ocean while lots of little boats are waiting to be taken out to sea.

Paternoster itself and Tietiesbaai, close by, have unspoiled beaches and while Paternoster is developing at an alarming rate, it still has the atmosphere of a small fishing village. Some of the fishermen’s cottages are available for accommodation for those who want to stay overnight. There are also guesthouses and hotel accommodation available.

Towards the East Coast there is Hermanus, Rooiels, Gansbaai and Kleinmond. Hermanus is a two and a half hour drive from Cape Town and while it can be a day trip there is so much to see and do, you should consider spending a night. During whale season it is the best place to be. Any of the accommodations with a view of Walker Bay will allow you to see the whales from your apartment’s windows. There are many boat trips for when they are further away or if you want a closer look.

At Gansbaai you will have the opportunity to try cage diving with the sharks if the whales didn’t provide enough adventure.

The Cape wine lands are within forty five minutes from the city of Cape Town and you can make regular day trips during your Cape Town holiday. The cellar at Delheim is one of the most authentic ones with a great atmosphere and ideal for some wine tasting. After tasting some of the farm’s popular wines you can venture to the lovely restaurant for a delectable lunch.

Cape Point is the other attraction for people visiting Cape Town. Many people believe this is the meeting point of the two oceans which are actually not true. The actual place where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Indian Ocean is at Aghullas, not too far away from Hermanus.

The highlight of most travelers visit to Cape Town is trip onto Table Mountain in the rotating cable car.

There are many bars, pubs and restaurants to visit at the end of a long day that will allow you to relax with a drink and a nice meal.

Rental Accommodation Cape Town

The rental market in Cape Town provides short or long term rental accommodation. With Cape Town’s popularity in the tourist market many apartment or even house rentals can be available for anything from a few days to a couple of months or a year.

Certain apartment or house rentals are exclusively for short period rentals and are usually priced per night. These rentals will be far more expensive than those available for longer periods which are usually priced per month instead of per week as in many European countries.

Most long-term rentals will include taxes or levies, while electricity and water is usually for the account of the occupant.

Long-term Rental

In this category there are a few options. The most basic and cheapest will be shared- rental accommodation. It can either be renting just a room in a house or sharing a flat or house with one or more people. These types of options are popular with students or young adults just starting a career. The traditional boardinghouse concept is seldom found anymore and has been replaced by hostels and shared opportunities.

While sharing a flat or house might be an attractive opportunity for singles it is not a preference of couples or families. There are various long-term apartment rentals available for couples and young families. People usually pick something conveniently close to their place of work or a quieter suburb depending on their needs. The V&A Waterfront area is very close to the inner city but most of these apartments are luxury rentals and come with quite a steep price tag at the end of each month.

Sea Point, Green Point and Bantry Bay are close to the city bowl as well and with more reasonable rates for apartments.

For house rentals very close to the city bowl Tamboerskloof, De Waterkant and the Bo-Kaap are popular. Bo-Kaap is the old District Six that used to be a very sensitive matter in South Africa’s past. In the last few years, however, it has become one of the most popular and sought-after areas and prices sky-rocketed more than in many other areas. It is an extremely convenient base as it is close to the city while unique in culture and heritage.

Short-term Rental

The choices are ample and budget travelers will have a variety of backpacker’s lodges, in the city and in the areas around, Cape Town to choose from. Long Street in the city bowl is the favorite backpacker’s street while areas such as Bloubergstrand have backpacker’s accommodation for the water sport lovers.

The city and the V&A Waterfront are favorites with the business traveler and while the hotels around the waterfront provides luxury and a bit of a holiday atmosphere, it is fully equipped with state of the art facilities that will satisfy the needs of any business traveler.

Families have a variety of choices between hotels, self-catering apartments and B&B’s and for honeymooners and bridal parties there are special accommodation options.

Whatever your needs might be Cape Town will have a solution.
